Wooden Cases: If required, we will also restore wooden cases to their former glory. If parts are missing, we can either supply contemporary similar bits or we can get replacement parts made by local artisans.

We use a well-known cabinetmaker from Dufftown to repair any physical damage to the case, which might involve making missing parts, renewing damaged veneer etc.

The case is then passed to another expert for colour matching – matching the new wood to the colour of the original ( by using different stains ) and then French polishing.

 

Slate Cases: Slate cases are initially cleaned and de-greased, using a cleaning agent. The case is then coloured and restored, using a special slate restorative. Finally, the gold details are applied to complete the sympathetic restoration.
